Disorders related to addiction include substance use, gambling, and gaming: conflict between immediate pleasure, long term harm, not about quantity of use, but consequences, recurrent social or interpersonal problems, failed attempts to quit/slow down. Why does it get it"s own category ( gambling addiction disorder in the dsm) Where is caffeine: partially related to the consequences (not so severe) It"s so prevalent/commonplace, that we don"t think of it as addictive. To call it a mental disorder would be strange in our society. I. e. nicotine addiction is so prominent because people have stopped using it and recognizing it as bad. Internet gaming addiction does not include porn, social media, phone use, etc. Some estimates suggest that one in ten people could be diagnosed with a personality disorder, others guess higher. People with personality disorders may: have trouble living with themselves or others, have difficulty learning/changing from past experiences, find it difficult to control behaviour, experience significant problems with work.
