PSYC 311 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Superior Frontal Sulcus, Superior Frontal Gyrus, Inferior Frontal Gyrus
Document Summary
The cortex is the name given to the gray matter of the brain that carries out the neural computations necessary for different functions: made out of many different information-processing stations working together and in. The high-level computations done by the cerebral cortex gives rise to cognition. The cortex must fold to fit within the cranium, creating the sulci and gyri. The central sulcus: separates the temporal lobe from the frontal and anterior parietal lobe, separates the frontal lobe from the parietal lobe, more specifically the primary motor cortex (m1) from the primary somatosensory cortex (s1) Areas 4 (primary motor) and area 3 of brodmann"s map are primarily within the sulcus banks. 2 main areas: area 4 (in the bank of cs) and area 6 (anterior to area 4: the precentral gyrus (m1, the post-central gyrus (s1) Area 1 is between area 3 and 2 and is in charge of perceiving vibrations.
