Civil wars are more common than interstate wars. Civil wars: about 6 years, has a number of causalities that"s 6-7 times higher than interstate wars. War between one or more rebel groups in a state against the gov against that state. Why rebel groups ght civil war: (dissatis ed groups are di erent from rebel groups) Historical mistreatment towards the government, systematic discrimination or exploitation. Improve their welfare by ghting the gov that"s been systematically discriminating against them. Control over natural resources - motivation is intensi ed when the revenues are controlled and not shared equally between the groups that make up the states (denied wealth that comes from the resources) Control of the state - more about the power and money, controlling the states" institutions (trying to shape society in your own image and having access to large amounts of money)
