ANSC 312 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Myelin, Hyperkeratosis, Ribavirin
Document Summary
Virus that is very unstable outside the host, so can be killed easily outside hosts (by soap) Can be horizontal or vertical, but vertical is less common now, because mothers are vaccinated. Can be transmitted through contaminated needles or other fomites. Humans cannot contract this virus, only domestic animals to get it are dogs, but wild carnivores can get it too. Gap junctions are probably involved in the spreading of the virus in the central nervous system. It suppresses the immune system response by the demyelination of cells in the central nervous system and damage immune cells, which cannot fix the problem, and/or stop the virus from spreading. Cdv attack the astrocyte of the central nervous system, the virus reproduces inside the cells and they are exocytosis from the cell, to go attack oligodendrocyte, which are usually responsible for the myelin sheath.
