More radical than him were the zwickau prophets. In their view, luther"s resistance to the papacy licensed the rebirth of prophetic authority liberated from institutions: zwickau prophets. Such as nikolaus storch believed they had access to an inner light of divine revelation. Their prophetic utterances were to rival or supersede scripture: zwickau and muntzer. The radical reformer thomas muntzer, once luther"s supporter at leipzig, soon fell under the sway of the zwickau prophets. This led to his alienation from luther and his flight to the hussities in prague. Hidden away, luther"s reaction to the news from wittenberg was generallypoor. This led to a new round of heretical hypocrisy. He himself didn"t object much to christian art. He thought art was an aid to faith rather than a work deserving a reward. Luther was more concerned about the prophets since they undermined his own sense of scripture alone. Instead of relying upon scripture alone, they relied upon themselves alone.
