Judicial: law may be categorized in 3 main ways: Private or civil law: a set of laws that attempt to resolve dispute between individuals (or businesses) Criminal or regulatory law: a set of laws that attempt to resolve disputes between society generally and certain individuals (or business). Constitutional law: a set of laws that attempt to resolve disputes between individuals and gov, or between gov and gov, when gov are acting in their capacities as lawmakers. Administrative law: encompass a wide variety of gov tribunals or boards or commissions that are set up under provincial or federal laws to deal with disputes in specific areas: the common law system. Precedent: the principle in the common law system which requires judges to follow a decision made in a higher court in the same jurisdiction. The civil law (quebec) system: is different from that in the rest of canada, and follow a civil code system rather than common laws.
