Law enforcement (30% of a police officers time: 70% of the time they are performing order maintenance duties. Assistance to victims of crime: a need for compassion and empathy, knowing how to deal with an individual in crisis. Emergency response (traffic accidents and fires etc. ) Police are necessary in order to prevent chaos between citizens as well as stability. Police must be representative of the community they serve. Thin blue line: the separation between the citizens and the police. Police sometimes see the community as an us versus you scenario and are therefore separate from the community. They hold a loyalty to the rule of law: schedule code of conduct (regulations) Section 4 officers are guilty of discreditable conduct if they insult another officer or a member of the public. Charter of right and freedoms: right to search and seizure, right not to be arbitrarily detained, right to be informed promptly od reason for detainment or imprisonment.
