Henry murray (1930-1960) developed the theory of levels of motivation, which includes; The middle-level of abstraction is the level that is stable and enduring. This level is internal (psychological) and is useful in understanding stable individual differences. A readiness to respond, a state of tension. A feeling of being compelled or pulled. There are 27 different psychogenic needs; abasement, achievement, acquisition, affiliation, aggression, autonomy, blame avoidance, contrariance, counteraction, defendance, dominance, exhibition, exposition, harm avoidance, inferior avoidance, nurturance, order, play, recognition, rejection, sentience, sex, similance, succorance, and understanding. Needs and press go hand in hand however one press could evoke make needs . Needs are ranked in a hierarchically organized manner within a person.
