NEUR 3302 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Conditioned Place Preference, Ejaculation, Perineum
Document Summary
This class will focus on the activation part of the org-act hypothesis. Activation: when sexual behaviour can be measured. Secondary sex characteristics: males- testicular/gonadal enlargement and penile growth. Spermarche: when viable sperm is being produced: females- breast development. Menarche: first menstration: pubic hair growth is not driven by gonadal hormones but just occurs at the same time as puberty and based on adrenal hormones not by gonads. Adrenarche: adrenal glands are producing androgens (m&f) Guevedoces- puberty: lack of dht (critical for male genetalia) but onset of puberty- testicles drop and enlarge and penis enlarges, onset of puberty is associated with increase in t. Affects primary sex characteristics: puberty activates what was organized earlier. Puberty: beginning of sexual desire: start noticing stimuli around them. Due to hormones in onset of puberty: the activation of sex circuitry that was organized in utero. Hypothalamic pituitary gonadal axis: hpg axis refers to link between hypo, pituitary and gonad.
