Language development: u-shaped grammar curve- children would over use words in passed form but putting. Ed" at the end of any word they can think of: universal grammar theory the mind has switched that get set when you learn a language as a child. Piaget"s developmental stages: sensorimotor, preoperational, concrete operational and formal operational. Sensorimotor stage: simple reflex action to symbolic processing, take the basics of an infants" abilities and build them up to understanding how the world worlds, the 3 fronts. Adapting to and exploring the environment (focus on intentional behavior) Understanding objects (object permanence- items still exist even when we don"t see it) Using symbols (waving and gesturing- to have people do things for them) they don"t have great vocal control because they don"t have fine motor control. Preoperational: use of symbols to represent objects and events, characterized by (egocentrism- difficult in seeing world from another"s viewpoint)
