Please refer to procedure for sterile dressing change and review u of m video for further instruction. Remove tape and old dressing with clean gloves. Open sterile field & place additional items to field (ie. additional instruments, drain swab, safety pin etc. ) Grasp drain with non-dominate hand (now considered a clean hand), pull up to the desired length to be removed. With dominate hand (sterile) insert sterile safety pin to drain, cut excess penrose drain and old safety pin. Discard sterile gloves and remove scissors from field. ***you may choose to arrange instruments in order to manipulate them with your bare hands (using 1 border to place instrument handles) or you can choose to sterile glove again and handle items from center of field. Cleanse and dry drain site (discard the forcep used to come into contact with the drain site) Cleanse and dry incision site (discard the forcep used to come into contact with the incision site)
