Infusion containers should be changed according to the physician orders or when they are nearly empty if the fluid is ordered as a continuous infusion. In many facilities the medication will be preloaded into the needleless syringe and labeled by the pharmacy prior to delivery to a local medication cabinet for the patient. Bolus - medication incompatible with solution: sometimes the medication to be administered is incompatible with the i. v. solution or with another medication in the solution. In this case the line needs to be flushed before and after administering the medication, usually with saline: the other procedures are the same as for medication administration discussed already.
