There are varying ways to translate/interpret the text into the target language. In time, the appropriateness of a translation maty change - functional translation. Functional translation - for the purpose of transferring the same function of a text to the target culture. From what point does it become "unfaithful" to the original text to appeal/be understood by the target culture/language. Literature exists in systems - that of a minority and majority culture which interacts, one is domesticated when translated and the other is foreignized (often the majority culture) 4: extraliterary factors (conditions existing in the target language system) are important in determining which texts are translated. If receptor culture lacks certain forms/styles/genres, then translation would be used to fill up this gap.
