Document Summary

Week 3: cognitive- behavioural perspectives of personality: identify themes in cognitive-behavioural approaches to personality and understand how this approach fits with other approaches. Cognitive-behavioural perspectives: perspectives plural as not a unified body of knowledge, but rather separate theories, this lecture is not an exhaustive account of everything personality-related that can be (cid:272)o(cid:374)sidered (cid:862)(cid:272)og(cid:374)itive(cid:863) or (cid:862)(cid:271)ehavioural(cid:863) Instead, presents several of the most applicable theories: common theme is that situational thoughts and actions accumulate and through learning processes result in personality as personal continuity, personality as cognitive-affective processing system modified by patterns in external environment. Perso(cid:374)ality is the su(cid:373) a(cid:374)d orga(cid:374)isatio(cid:374) of a(cid:374) i(cid:374)dividual"s (cid:271)ehaviours. Different approaches: radical behaviourism, social learning theory, cognitive-behavioural approach, demonstrate knowledge of how early behavioural theories led to a view of personality as an accumulation of learning. Prominent behaviourists: watson: radical behaviourism, pavlov: classical conditioning, skinner: operant conditioning, bandura: social learning.
