What makes up the criminal justice system (cjs): people. Along with these four elements, there several key arms of the criminal justice system. The key actors within the system include jurors, magistrates, police officers, lawyers and custodial correctional officers (cco). Other people involved in the cjs can be: court staff, counselors, liaison officers, complainants, witnesses, accused and suspected person, case managers. In addition to the extensive amount of people within the cjs, there are also many ideas and theories about what the criminal justice system should do or does. These can include: law, order, crime, justice, fairness, rights, rule of law, control, prevention, deterrence, punishment, treatment, proportionality, process.
