What makes up the criminal justice system (cjs): people. Along with these four elements, there several key arms of the criminal justice system. These include: police: designed to detect and investigate within the cjs, courts: designed to adjudicate and sentence, corrections: focus on punishment, management and rehabilitation. Types of people and actors" within the criminal justice system. There are many different people who play active roles or come in contact with the. The key actors within the system include jurors, magistrates, police officers, lawyers and custodial correctional officers (cco). Other people involved in the cjs can be: court staff, counselors, liaison officers, complainants, witnesses, accused and suspected person, case managers. In addition to the extensive amount of people within the cjs, there are also many ideas and theories about what the criminal justice system should do or does. These can include: law, order, crime, justice, fairness, rights, rule of law, control, prevention, deterrence, punishment, treatment, proportionality, process.
