The brain is made up of 4 key areas. Cerebrum made up of left and right hemispheres - is the outer upper section makes up majority of the actual brain. Diencephalon just underneath the cerebrum made up of thalamus, hypothalamus, pineal gland and pituitary gland. Brain stem made up of midbrain, pons and medulla oblongata connects the brain to the spinal cord where will nd the vital, life sustaining functions (e. g. make you breath, respiratory senses, sections that regulate heart rate) Cerebellum little brain at the bottom and is the posterior segment of the brain (at the base of the brain) translates to little brain". Skeletal skull and vertebral column protect the brain and spinal cord from impact. Uid between meninges and inside and outside of the cavities of brain and spinal cord buoyant and shock absorbing cushion provides nourishment and protection. There are 3 layers of meninges in the brain.
