The cranial meninges: cranial meninges: surround brain, act as shock absorbers, prevent contact with bones; continuous with spinal meninges, 3 layers: dura mater, arachnoid mater, pia mater. Internal layers: tightly bound to contours of the brain, anchored to surface by astrocytes, highly vascular, acts as floor to support large cranial vessels.
