Useful when a behavior is first being shaped. Schedule of reinforcement = response requirement that must be met to obtain reinforcement. Indicates what has to be done for the reinforcer to be delivered. Continuous reinforcement schedule (crf) = a schedule in which each specified response is reinforced. Intermittent/partial reinforcement schedule = a schedule in which only some responses are reinforced. I. e. a rat has to press the bar an average of 5 times for each food pellet. Produce a high and steady rate of response, often with little/no post- reinforcement pause. Some predatory behaviors have strong vr component only some attempts at chasing down prey = successful. May facilitate the development of an abusive relationship. I. e. earning a dollar for every 10 carburetors assembled on an assembly line. Same as a continuous reinforcement schedule each response is reinforced. Produce a high rate of response along with a short pause (known as post- reinforcement pause) following the attainment of each reinforcer.
