Personal concerns and qualitative changes in adulthood. Involves knowing the issues that an individual finds important, the wants of the individual goes about getting what they want, etc. Reflect what people want during a certain time in their lives. Can be strategies or plans that people use in order to get what they want and/or to stay away from things they do not want. Personality cannot be reduced to just traits. Personality needs to be viewed as what a person sets out to accomplish during a certain point in their life. This would be expected when looking at the developing wants/needs during adulthood. Each aspect of one"s personality has to be in balance with all of the other aspects. Parts of the personality are structured to produce two orientations of one"s ego. People must respond to the demands of the external world while also analyzing their own inner feelings. Two important age-related trends in the development of personality.
