First philosopher to extensively treat many topics that were later to become part of psychology. Material cause : matter of which a thing is made. Formal cause : particular form/pattern of a thing. Efficient cause : force that transforms material thing into certain form. Final cause : purpose for which a thing exists. Teleology : everything in nature exists for a reason. Entelechy : everything in nature has a function built into it. Unmoved mover : pure actuality and is the cause of everything in nature. Vegetative (nutritive) soul : allows only growth, assimilation of. Sensitive soul : possessed by animals; experience pain, pleasure. Rational soul : possessed by humans; all functions of other 2 souls and have a memory and allows rational thinking/thoughts. Common sense : mechanism that coordinated information from all. Passive reason : utilization of synthesized experience for getting senses; synthesized experience along effectively in everyday life but does not result in understanding of essences.
