Deliberation skills need to be taught: instruction, role play. Listening to diverse views: listen carefully to reasoning, stimulates cognitive growth, helps children develop their capacity to reason about moral issues, goal: produce wise action. Higher order participation skills: teaching decision making- teach directly and explicitly. Help children become more aware of decisions and decision making. Unpack decisions and make a visual representation- show relationships. Voting and elections: goes with deliberation- informs voting, voting- seen as culminating activity, help students understand that voting is a civic duty- after studying and deliberation, hold real elections. Include literature, speech competitions, press conferences, polling place, deliberation.
