BIOL 1107K Chapter Notes - Chapter 11: Sister Chromatids, Spindle Apparatus, Retinoblastoma Protein
Document Summary
Chapter 11: unicellular for reproduction, multicellular for growth and repair as well, four events. Replication complex = proteins in center of cell: eukaryotic cell division. Signals for cell division are related to needs of organism. Mitosis/meiosis: mitosis makes two cells that are identical to the parent cell, meiosis makes four cells that have half the chromosome number, not identical to parent cell. Cell cycle: period between cell divisions. Any point when the cell is not actually dividing. G1: gap chromosome single, unreplicated, restriction point commitment is made to dna replicate. S-phase: dna replicates, one chromosome becomes two sister chromatids. G2: gap 2, cell prepares for mitosis. M phase- mitosis and cytokinesis occur here: cyclin-depe(cid:374)de(cid:374)t ki(cid:374)ases (cid:894)cdk"s(cid:895) Protein + atp = protein p + adp. Activated by cyclin: g1-s cyclin cdk. Rb normally inhibits cell cycle at restriction point. Cyclins are transient in cell cycle: controlling cell division. Platelet derived from growth factor: stimulates skin cells to divide.
