Captain orellana has respect, and a little fear for the indians. Approached the indians so as to avoid misunderstanding, surprising, disturbing or scaring them. Asked for food, in exchange for something else they had. Indians rejoiced at their arrival and offered them many animals and food. Indians thought they were saints or celestial beings bc they worship the sun. They set up a large cross, which the indians were thankful for t. They wanted to speak with the captain. Indians made them fast around easter time; said they could not get the food. But when they did, it was so abundant they had to throw some away. Another village, there was a great deal of colorful porcelain (dishes) This race of people possess the riches. Conquistadores not interested in the wealth, only food. Started to follow the roads from there, inland, to explore.
