Conflict in ukraine is caused by: nato enlargement (aiming to move ukraine into the west, european union"s eastward expansion, the west"s backing of pro-democracy movement. Elites in the west have a flawed view of international politics, that realism is no longer relevant and liberal principles will keep europe safe. Moscow saw us efforts to get ukraine into nato as a huge strategic mistakes and actions that represent a direct threat to russia. Nato and eu have both been expanding east since the early 2000s. Ukraine is a buffer state for russia and even though nato denies it, they are trying to contain russia by expanding; russia is not trusting. There is no evidence that the ukraine crisis is a result of russia"s goal of reclaiming former. The solution is to help ease ukraine into a role as the buffer between nato and russia by using eu funds to help form an economic rescue plan.
