Document Summary

Subpolar lows- series of low pressure areas at surface at poles. Polar cell- circulating cell of cold air. Polar easterlies- circular winds from the east in response to the coriolis effect. Polar highs- high surface pressure from very cold air over poles is so dense that it has a tendency to sink vigorously to the surface. Icelandic low- subpolar low in the atlantic. Aleutian low- subpolar low over the north paci c. Westerlies- belt of wind blowing from west to east. Anticyclone- movement of a high pressure area guided by mid latitude westerlies: generally move equator ward as they migrate eastward.
