Actaeon stumbled upon artemis by accident - she saw him and turned him into a stag and was eaten by his hunting dogs - theme of cruelty, sudden death, purity and chastity of artemis. Etiology for constellations - like most myths. Orion is a hunter who tries to woo king oenopion"s daughter, merope. He becomes drunk and is blinded by the king. He regains his sight from helius, the sun god. While he is clearing the island of wild beasts as a favor for oenopion, he encounters artemis and tries to rape her. In her anger she produces a scorpion that stings him to death.
