PSY 113 Chapter Notes - Chapter 3: Limbic System, Exocytosis, Temporal Lobe
Document Summary
Biological foundation outline, divisions of the nervous system, the central nervous system (cns) These are called receptors (they receive a stimulus). The receptor cells of your eyes are stimulated by light: when the receptor is stimulated, it sends a message to a part of your body that effects the correct response. This is called the effector: the peripheral nervous system (pns) All nerves elsewhere in the body are part of the peripheral nervous system (pns), and virtually all of the nerves in the peripheral nervous system connect to the cns via the spinal cord. Somatic nervous system - the division of the peripheral nervous system that controls the skeletal muscles and transmits sensory information. Autonomic nervous system - the division of the peripheral nervous system that receives information from and controls the internal organs. Sympathetic - the division of the autonomic nervous system that mobilizes the organism for physical exertion.
