SOC 201 Chapter Notes - Chapter 3: Werner Heisenberg
Document Summary
It is difficult to paint a clear picture of a fuzzy object. ludwig josef. The first time i read wittgenstein"s statement, i was struck by how profoundly it applied to sociology. As far as i was concerned, there was hardly anything more fuzzy than sociological phenomena. Generally, sociologists do not like to commit themselves that far; they are more likely to say something to the effect that if that happens, then it is likely that this will happen. This really bugs some sociology students the ones who like things cut and dried, who want their knowledge to be clear, definite, and certain. Unfortunately for these students, there is not much of that sort of knowledge in sociology. I hasten to point out that the fact that many of sociologists" predictions about what will happen are probabilistic rather than certain is in no way the fault of sociology!
