Experiments can tell us a lot about society and the how people behave. A summer camp was set up by sherif to observe group conflict and learn how to avoid it. He predicted that groups working toward a common goal would eliminate any conflict. Phase 2: the two teams developed a rivalry against one another. Phase 3: an important issue will cause both teams to work well together to mutually solve the issue, and it reduced the conflict. An experiment tests a theory by testing evidence of a social process on a group of people. Tested theory that guards are brutal in prison camps. Within the first day of the experiment, the prison guards showed violence and the prisoners showed anxiety. This experiment impacted society presenting the idea that brutality can be caused by social conditions. Many experiments and different kind of research is necessary to reach a scientific fact. Questioned if counseling those who committed assault was effective.
