Participant observation- a sociological research technique in which a researcher actually becomes simultaneously both participant in and observer of the study. Sir francis bacon- came up with the scientific method. Observation, hypothesis, testing, analysis of data, and drawing conclusions. Sociology research can be done both qualitatively and quantitatively. Deductive reasoning- research question about a focused point based on a general principle. Inductive reasoning- arrives at general conclusions from specific observations. Research design: developing a research question- from past research or an observation. Replication study: research that is repeated exactly, but on a different group, time, or place: creating a research design- the overall logic and strategy underlying a research project. Hypothesis- prediction that one intends to test that can have more. Variable- characteristic of a person or group than one value wants to test as a presumed. Independent variable- one research cause of something else. which there is a presumed effect characteristic or attribute that can potentially.
