Human resource management (hrm): the process of finding, developing, and keeping the right people to form a qualified workforce. Employment decisions should be based on factors that are job related, reasonably necessary, or a business necessity. The only time that sex, age, religion and the like can be used to make employment decisions is when they are considered a bona fide occupational qualification. Ex. a baptist church hiring a new minister, can specify that being a baptist is a bfoq for the position. These laws also cover all training and development activities, performance appraisals, terminations, and compensation decisions. Labor laws: regulate interaction between management and labor unions that represent groups of employees. Garuntee employees the right to form and join unions of their own choosing. Sets safety and health standards for employers and conducts inspections to determine whether those standards are being met.
