Lied- a particular type of german song that evolved in the late eighteenth century and flourished in the nineteenth. The lead is one of the most important miniature genres of the romantic era. Accompaniment- the lead is almost always accompanied by piano alone. Poetry- the text of a lied is usually a romantic poem of some merit. Mood- the lied captures an intimacy of expression. The pianist and singer seem to be sharing an emotional insight with the listeners. Through composed- a song with new music for each stanza of the poem. Strophic- a song that repeats the same music over and over for all its stanzas. Etude- a piece of music designed to aid technical study of a particular instrument. Character pieces- a short romantic piano piece that portrays a particular mood. Program music- instrumental compositions associated with poems, stories, and the like. Concert overture- an early nineteenth-century genre resembling an opera overture but without any following opera.
