Most oten it is done within the husbands home (where the work took place/baby was conceived). Was shameful if birth took place in a women"s families home village. Shame was only counterbalanced by fear of further misfortune: childbirth is viewed as polluing all old clothes and bed sheets used during birth. Birthing mother undergoes shame of being touched and exposed during childbirth: most women never give birth alone but they are only atended by married female neighbors and their husbands mother and sisters. Their own family does not atend: birth is done with a midwife (dai) Goes back to the let being the bad or evil part of body: if labor is expected to be lengthy, a wide range of remedies can be used to accelerate labor. Includes herbs and drinks for women and also diferent posiions to help accelerate the birthing process.
