Need for affiliation - need to be connected/related to others. Evolutionary - rearing offspring, collaboration in hunting, opportunities for sex. Homeostasis - tendency for the body to want to maintain a state of constancy. Hypothalamus - primary structure of brain that signals hunger and satiation. Lateral - turns hunger on, stimulation increases eating. Ventromedial - turns hunger off, stimulation stops eating. Eat more when there is more variety offered. Eat more when food is more palatable. Thinking about food and what it means. 3 main reasons for high obesity rates in us: increased high fat easily accessible junk food, increased portion size, increased sedentary lifestyle. What drives us to seek and reach goals. Strength of motivation to achieve success - thrill at sense of achievement (estimate probability of success, incentive value of success)
