Jenner"s vaccines, haber and borlaug"s synthetic fertilizer, etc: science has made fantastic discoveries and continues to do so. What is science: science is the use of systematic observation in order to acquire knowledge. These empirical methods are wonderful ways to learn about the physical and biological world: systematic observation: the careful observation of the natural world with the aim of better understanding it. Scientists observe the world in a very organized way: observation leads to hypotheses we can test. When we develop hypotheses and theories, we state them in a way that can be tested: hypotheses: a logical idea that can be tested, theories: groups of closely related phenomena or observations, science is democratic. Scientists are skeptical and have open debates about their observations and theories: science is cumulative. We can learn the important truths discovered by earlier scientists and build on them.
