Monitoring/inspecting- constantly reviewing operations to make sure everything is running smoothly: reading crime reports, daily meetings. Dissemination- getting information to people in the department. Spokesperson duties- dealing with what info to release to the media and when: decision maker role. Entrepreneur- selling new ideas to officers, legislators, governing boards, etc: a new policing method. Disturbance handler-handling disputes or dealing with major events. Interpersonal disputes between employees, disputes between agencies, persistent crime problems. Resource allocator- dealing with the budget, placement of officers. Negotiator- dealing with employee unions through bargaining, dealing with employee grievances.
