Eventually became friends with wagner, although wagner maintained a replacement. Nietzsche felt need to fill void that christianity left, wanted to use aesthetic as a pessimistic view even though nietzsche"s evolved (cid:498)nietzsche was no atheist but his god was dead(cid:499) Nietzsche: artists feel a need for spiritual discipline: (cid:498)obedience in one direction(cid:499) Author believes jung"s philosophy would have more secure base and acceptance. Concert hall is place to encounter divine. Jung: religious experience is entirely different from that experienced by arts and is therefore not a replacement if he was more artistically inclined.
