Oligarchy- rule of the few , council of men in charge versus previous basileus rulers or chiefs. Agathoi- good people , what rich greek men called themselves. Kakoi- bad people , what rich greek men called the poor. Demos- the people , responsible for making decisions in some poleis at later times. Talents- athenian denominations of money, very large sum. Hoplite- heavy infantryman, mainstay of archaic greek armies. Phalanx- ranks of warriors, many hoplites in formation shoulder-to-shoulder, so that they shield the warrior next to them as well. Symposium- private parties, usually around 9 men starts after sunset, with men gathered in a specific room to eat and drink. Andron- men"s room of the house, where symposiums were held and drinking was done. Theognis- poet who probably lived in megara, described the symposium and how to host one in detail in a poem. Olympia- place where athletic competition was held once every four years for only.
