Seems like the pinnacle of prejudice and offensiveness today. Black americans started performing in troupes regularly after the abolition of slavery. Theatrical presentations that used gestures done in silence. Instrumental music that occurred during the performance of the gestures and that helped create a particular mood. Featured dance, elaborate scenery and costumes, sets, and sophisticated stage machinery. Had all the above 2 components in addition to components of melodrama and fantasy.
