Communication: the transfer of information and understanding from one person to another. Efficient communicator: can transmit your message accurately in the least time. Effective communicator: your intended message is accurately understood by the other person. Sender: person wanting to share information (called a message) Receiver: person for whom the message is intended. Encoding: translating a message into understandable symbols or language. Decoding: interpreting and trying to make sense of the message. The receiver expresses his or her reaction to the sender"s message. Tells the person sending the message whether the receiver understood it in the same way the sender intended and whether they agree with it. Paraphrasing: occurs when people restate in their words the crux of what they heard or read. Can disrupt the message at several different point (medium, encoding, and decoding) Known as any disturbance that interferes with the transmission of a message. Media richness: indicates how well a particular medium conveys information and promotes learning.
