Human resource management- consists of the activities managers perform to plan for, attract, develop, and retain an effective workforce: used to be called the personnel department. Changed because it wanted to show the importance of a company"s staffing. Staff is referred to as resources and therefore more essential. Companies with flat management structures have done away with hr departments let regular line managers handle hiring and firing. Hr also resolves pay problems and mediates employee disputes. Hr deals with employee paperwork and legal accountability. Human capital- the economic or productive potential of employee knowledge, experience, and actions. Knowledge worker- some whose occupation is principally concerned with generating or interpreting information as opposed to manual labor: most common type of worker in the 21st century. Social capital- the economic or productive potential of strong, trusting, and cooperative relationships: goodwill, mutual respect, trust, teamwork. Human resources inventory- a report listing your org"s employees by name, education, training, languages, etc.
