Anthropologists want to learn about as many dif. Anthropology- the study of human nature, human society, and the human past. Anthropology emphasizes that all aspects of human life intersect with one another in complex ways (holism: discipline interested in comparison, ant. is a field-based discipline, field research connects with the lived experience of other people. First emphasized a series of universal stages but was rejected. Biological evolution does not equal cultural evolution. Culture- patterns of learned behaviors and ideas that human beings acquire as members of society. Cultural heritage allows humans to adopt to and transform world around us. Humans are more dependent on learning for survival bc we have no insticts. Concept of culture is central to explanations of why human beings are they way they are. Frequently able to show that members of a social group behave bc they interacted with other people and learned how to perform behavior.
