The railroad and steamships were able to transport good and people along the oceans. The telegraph and telephones was able to communicate with people across the nations, this process alone with communication advanced the economy. Everyone noticing the change that the railroad was bringing, they started to build the empire, by building and contributing/supporting with money. But they built too much, this brought competition.
