Ch 1: an introduction to anatomy & physiology. Human anatomy and physiology is about how the human body performs and functions that keep you alive and alert. What is the structure and how does it work? . Homeostasis: a body"s relatively stable internal environment. Have the ability to detect and respond to stimuli in their immediate environment. Oxygen is obtained from the environment and is required for chemical processes that release energy in a suitable form. Mechanical and chemical process that converts the nutrients in ingested food into simpler substances the body can use. Internal movement and distribution of oxygen, cellular wastes, and products of digestion. Anatomy: the study of internal and external structures of the body and the physical relationships among body parts. Gross anatomy (macroscopic anatomy): involves the examination of relatively large structures and features usually visible with the unaided eye. Microscopic anatomy: structures that cannot be seen without magnification. Dissecting microscope you can see tissue structure.
