PHYS 11 Chapter Notes - Chapter 3: Medium Earth Orbit, Rocket Propellant, Orbital Velocity
Document Summary
Gravity : the force of attraction between two objects that have mass. Small objects cannot tell the forces between, since earth has lots of mass, it exerts large gravitational force on people. The weight if standing on moon will be different to the weight on earth, as the force is less (mass hasn"t changed, but weight has) 1 kg on earth, the pull of gravity will be a force of 2. 2 lb. Newton"s law of gravity: equation that describes the pull of gravity between two objects. The force of attraction is proportional to the mass; therefore, double the mass, means double the force. Inverse square law: when the distance gets larger, the force gets smaller. I. e if tripled the distance, the force decrease by a factor of nine. M = the mass of the pulling object. M = the mass of the object being pulled.
