The main idea of the theory of justice. Each person have a right to the most extensive basic liberty compatible with a similar liberty for others . Choices would be made by people with veil of ignorance . Doesn"t know place in society, class position, social status, wealth, intelligence, strength, etc. Veil of ignorance ensures no advantage of disadvantage in the choice of principles. Justice as fairness : principles of justice are agreed to in an initial situation that is fair. Parties in the initial situation are rational and mutually disinterested (in each other"s interests) An interpretation of the initial situation and the problem of choice. A set of principles which would be agreed to. Equality in the assignment of basic rights. Duties or social and economic inequalities are just only if they result in compensating benefits for everyone (particularly least advantaged members of society) Parties in the original position are equal (same rights) and moral persons.
