Internal conflicts between the various city-states allowed them to be conquered by an outsider. Was assassinated in 336 b. c. e and left alexander in charge. Carried out his father"s mission to conquer western asia and the persians along with it. Won various battles against the persian and conquered egypt without even fighting. Honored the priestly class and was given the title of pharaoh. Built a city where the nile meets the mediterranean called alexandria. Took the capital of the persians, persepolis, and performed a symbolic act of retribution by burning the buildings of xerxes who had invaded greece 150 years ago.
