Cohen said that that pastoralism, horticulture, agriculture are key for producing food in nonindustrial societies. Pastoralism: strategy for food production involving the domestication of animals. Horticulture: cultivation of plants for sustenance through a non intensive use of land and labor. Kinda like mom and pop style of growing plants. Agriculture: intensive farming strategy for food production involving permanently cultivated land. Uses a lot of shit like irrigation, machinery, fertilizer. Intensive agriculture led to social stratification, like wealthy landowners.
