In 1971 the stanford university psychology department created a simulated jail using students as prisoners and guards. Guard hits prisoner, even though he wasn"t supposed to. After 30 years, the stanford prison experiment continues to be the subject of heated debates. Its results have been used to explain everything from the holocaust to violence in maximum security prisons. 20 male volunteers participated in a study aimed at reconstructing psychological conditions of prison life. To the surprise of the researchers in charge it only took a few days for the guards to become abnormally sadistic and the prisoners to sink into a terrible state of depression. Experiment cancelled on sixth day instead of scheduled 2 weeks. Das experiment is based on black box book by mario giordano which was inspired by the stanford prison experiment. This movie imagines beyond the actual events, elaborating on what would have happened if the researchers had completely lost control of the experiment.
