Document Summary
Chemistry- the study of composition, properties, and interactions of matter. Hypothesis- tentative explanation of observations that acts as a guide for gathering and checking information. Laws- summarize a vast amount of experimental observations, describe, or predict some part of the natural world. Theories- well tested, satisfactory explanations of a part of nature. Can be changed as new information arrives, but accepted in the meantime. Scientific method- process from hypothesis to theory involving an experimental verification of hypothesis. Macroscopic domain- everything that is large enough to be seen by the human eye or touched in daily life. Microscopic domain- sometimes visible through a microscope, seen through imagination. Symbolic domain- chemical language used to describe the macroscopic and microscopic domains using chemical symbols, equations, and formulas. Help to interpret the macroscopic domain in relation to the microscopic domain. Matter- anything that occupies space and has mass. Liquid- takes shape of relative container, definite volume. Gas- takes shape and volume of relative container.
